My first memory of Aaliyah was when I was a kid in 1994. I had to be v, turning 6 around that summer, and my sis and I were watching Nickelodeon's ALL THAT. The seventh episode of the commencement flavour for the sketch comedy prove resembling Sat NIGHT Live. That was on Feb 4, 1994. Past that frame, Aaliyah was fifteen-years-former. She was a model that I wanted to follow in her footsteps as a child. Aaliyah was compelling enough for me that her captivating spirit enthralled me. She drew me because she felt natural to me in the simplest terms. Without pretension or the generic makeup of a pop star, she felt like a daughter singing about her environment.
It's essential to write this because last yr, during the 20th anniversary of her tragic passing, Aaliyah's house of horror that evaded her throughout her brusque life was the subject of speculation, tabloid fodder, and net gossip. We know what happened in her life, and looking back at her functioning in ALL THAT, especially with the song that she sang ("Age Ain't Naught Only A Number), we could see the writings on the wall. Because of that, IN THE Cutting chooses to use our space today to celebrate Aaliyah's icon. It's her birthday, and she was more than than that memory of depravity that was inflicted upon her. She was more than a adult female; no pun intended, because Aaliyah rose above the tragedy to bring us a trunk of piece of work that defined her every bit a person.
Equally a truthful Capricornian woman with an historic period of Aquarius rising in her divinity chart, Aaliyah put her finger on the pulse future of the sounds and visual medium of what the earth would look like for years to come. As an idolator, I was on the edge of my seat as I watched her progress. I think buying the self-titled Reddish Album (AALIYAH) when it starting time came out and watching her promote her new era. She was unstoppable and completely endearingly watchable.
One of my favorite memories of her was when she was on TRL (Full Request Alive) with Carson Daly, and she surprised Carson with her new pet snake. Carson was terrified and freaking out in front of the audience, and Aaliyah was and so damn beautiful. She chased him in the studio with her snake, Boots. If you sentinel the video (I volition drop the link below), Aaliyah coyly tells Carson to close his eyes, and she surprises him with her new baby snake. She'southward bubbly and ambrosial. Aaliyah asks the audition what to proper name her serpent, and Carson notwithstanding terrified and telling the ophidian to chill, suggests Boots. Aaliyah thought that was adorable, and information technology is!
The solar day she passed, I was with my sister and grandmother at habitation. It was the afternoon before my first of seventh grade, and I had to be turning thirteen that year. My dad and little brother ran to the business firm, and in horror, came up to me to tell me that Power 96 announced the sudden and tragic passing of Aaliyah. To put it in perspective, I'm from Miami, Florida and the Bahamas are a cool 90 minutes on a plane. In a state of disbelief and stupor, I didn't believe my dad'due south words. I was simply listening to Aaliyah'southward Blood-red Album that morn on my fiddling royal translucent portable stereo. I ran to my room to watch the news in my room.
I saw the devastation of the airplane crash flash on the screen, and in horror, I could hear the disc jockeys on the radio mix with the news anchors on the tv screens. That night, I cried myself to slumber listening to Aaliyah every bit I hugged my portable stereo in bed. The post-obit mean solar day, her expiry was the topic of conversation at my Southern Baptist Christian schoolhouse. I recollect speaking against their tonality as they pondered whether she knew that Christ was her Lord and Savior. I understand where Aaliyah is and what her spirit is--- I can feel her energy is amidst her fans, like myself, and that'southward the beauty of Aaliyah. She laid the foundation within her music that stands the test of time. She transcends time, and we can't empathize why she was removed from us then shortly, but I tin can understand that she'south making miracles happen somewhere.
Aaliyah, we can't come across you, and we can't hear you, but we can feel y'all! Nosotros love y'all! Happy birthday, my sugariness angel.

December 10, 2002, Compilation album "I Care iv U" is released.
Blackground Records and Universal Music decided to release a posthumous tape that included songs from her studio albums and previously unreleased tracks and demos, recorded between 1993 and 2001; including "I Miss You", "Don't Know What To Tell You" and "Erica Kane" along with a few of Aaliyah's greatest hits such every bit "Ane In A Million", "Are You That Somebody" and "At Your Best (You Are love)".
I Care 4 U was certified Platinum in the United states of america and sold over 1.half-dozen million copies in the country (6 million worldwide).
